Sercel News

Sercel's expertise in the field of seismic acquisition systems and geophysical streamers is the result of 30 years of streamer manufacturing and 40 years in the development of acquisition systems.

Leveraging this vast experience, Sercel developed the Seal system with a more flexible architecture, advanced integration of electronics, lower power consumption and higher reliability.

The Seal System brings two major break-throughs:
- Advanced flexible architecture for optimal productivity
- Small diameter arrays (Fluid or Solid)

  • Flexible Architecture:
    • On board, the Central Unit of the Seal System can be interfaced with any of the external systems used in the instrument room (i.e: source synchronizer, positioning and navigation systems, processing systems). The auxiliary channels acquisition unit can be easily placed in the most convenient location.
    • Fully distributed electronics, the length of the streamer section overlap and the number and location of hydrophones for each channel allow crews to tailor the streamer architecture to better fit the changing demands of complex marine surveys.
    • Data transmission and power supply systems are both fully redundant to ensure optimal productivity.
  • Small diameter fluid or solid arrays:
    • With a diameter no bigger than 50mm, Seal streamers open the door to either smaller vessels or more streamers per vessel for higher productivity. The solid cable design offers improved noise performance over fluid filled sections during periods of marginal weather conditions and is the strongest cable design in the industry.

Benefits of using Seal:

  1. Zero dead-time acquisition
  2. High level of reliability and data integrity
    • Fault tolerant to power and transmission breakdowns
    • Distributed waterproof electronics with few connectors
    • Field proven electronics / robust mechanics
    • Permanent instrument tests
  3. Small diameter in-sea equipment with streamlined canisters
  4. High resolution capability
  5. Choice between fluid and solid streamers
