Product Development

We constantly need to push technological limits and design acquisition systems that are effective and reliable in the most adverse conditions in order to meet the challenge of finding the energy reserves of the future. We dedicate 6-8% of our revenue to R&D, as we do not believe in standing still. In our R&D departments, over 200 engineers and technicians pool their knowledge and expertise in highly varied domains (including software, electronics, sensors, maths, acoustics, mechanics, plastics and geophysics) to develop the products of the future and make Sercel the market leader.

Christian, Project Manager

I supervise a team of seven high-level technicians and engineers who work on a large number of development projects and on maintaining existing electronics products. The inter-personal dimension is an important part of the role, as we are constantly interacting with the company’s other divisions. Technology monitoring is also very important as Sercel uses cutting-edge technology. We must always endeavour to improve and constantly innovate in order to maintain our position as market leader! I like the human scale of the company, which enables quick decision-making, and its international dimension. I am in regular contact with teams on other sites in France and abroad. In my view, decision-making ability, time management, organisation and leadership are the qualities needed for this sort of post.”

Christophe, Research Engineer

christophe-small.jpg “I joined Sercel following several years spent gaining IT experience in a number of business sectors. I am a software research and development engineer in the marine products development department. I develop software that runs seismic data acquisition sensors. We also work to address any product malfunctions. We are in frequent contact with other sites abroad, particularly for software testing. We travel to our clients’ premises from time to time. I appreciated the training I received when I joined Sercel about the seismic industry, end products and their use. It enabled me to better pinpoint my role in the product design and usage process. As the world leader for geophysical equipment, Sercel has a wide range of products that must constantly be kept at the cutting-edge of technology. It’s a real challenge! Open-mindedness, flexibility, a work ethic and the ability to reappraise are all skills that are needed to successfully fulfil this role.”

Alejandro, Mechanical Engineer

"As a mechanical engineer in the Product Development group, the opportunities for both professional and personal growth are abundant. Diverse projects, requiring knowledge of multiple disciplines, results in a broadening of one's technical competency. Project teams, in an effort to foster teamwork and cohesion, typically employ members not only from different engineering groups but from different operational levels within the company. With a management led emphasis on quality and maintenance of HSE standards, what results is a company full of dedicated professionals whose sole focus is to keep Sercel as the worldwide leader of seismic acquisition equipment and a company, I am proud to say, I am a part of."

David, Product Validation Technician

david-small.jpg“Following a university technical diploma and five years’ experience in an engineering firm as an R&D technician, I joined Sercel as a test technician in the control section of the production department and then switched to the product development department, before becoming a validation technician. I am involved in the validation of the development of Sercel software. I ensure that software works properly and I develop tools to optimize our test time and its performance. I am fortunate enough to work on different projects using cutting-edge technology in order to create innovative products. It is highly stimulating and intellectually worthwhile! Sercel regularly offers us technical training and good development prospects. The qualities required for this post are accuracy, perseverance, adaptability and a work ethic."
