        How to monitor Thwaites Glacier which is melting fast?

        The Thwaites Glacier in an isolated part of Antarctica has the potential to cause a catastrophic rise in global sea levels. It is melting fast and accounts for four percent of the world’s annual sea level rise. The scientific community would like to monitor Thwaites in order that they can determine how quickly it is warming and how threatening it could prove to be. Sercel's MATS3G acoustic modem was used on the nupiri muka, a fully autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV).

        Sercel’s QuietSeaTM is a fully integrated Passive Acoustic Monitoring system stepped up performance with the extension of the frequency bandwidth to 180 kHz, allowing the detection of cetaceans (porpoise click trains as example.)

By allowing easy integration and delivering good results in very shallow waters, MATS LT enabled Kopadia to design, in a record time, a fully integrated positioning and tracking solution for its AUV.

        Conducting underwater seismic surveys can be an extremely challenging task, requiring the deployment of specialized equipment such as ocean-bottom seismometers in hostile environments, often several thousand meters beneath sea-level.

        Geothermal energy is derived from the Earth's energy, which is converted into heat. It's crucial to have a clear understanding of underground before implementation of geothermal solution for exemple on a large scale.

              TRIDENT from Sercel is a string of four hydrophones that improves the high-data-rate communication in horizontal channels (shallow water) and in noisy environments. Trident manages the processing of multipath spreading for an improved signal-to-noise ratio. Signal-to-noise improvement: 6dB

              VITAC from Sercel  is a software module that improves and facilitates images transmission. Even if transmission errors occur, VITAC ensures that transmitted images can still be visualized. Typical compression rate: 20 (24-bit image).

                ISE installed two MATS 3G acoustic modems with which to monitor nupiri muka’s progress for the first few kilometers before running completely autonomously.
